Are you dreading potty training because you're unorganized and not prepared? People will tell you to stick to a schedule while potty training, only let them drink at these times and feed them special foods. Let me tell you I am the most unorganized person out there. I also make schedules and throw them out the window or use them as a dust pan after sweeping. I didn't feed mine certain foods to help or set timers to take potty breaks. You would think after potty training two boys I should be able to potty train #3 without error... WRONG! My third child is a child from down under. He is completely different in every way. I was dreading potty training him because I knew it was going to be a week full of piss and shit everywhere. Today we are finished with our first week of potty training and I'd say it has been, for the most part, successful. I threw together a short list of practical advice that helped us.
* Go potty first thing in the morning and an hour after.
* Before leaving the house ALWAYS try to go potty.
* Don't offer treats or prizes just a simple "YAY!!!!" works just fine.
* Ditch the charts, they really don't care about them and they will eventually be forgotten.
* If they wake up dry two nights in a row I'd say ditch the pull ups or diapers at night.
* We skipped the pull ups, they are pretty much diapers anyways.
*If they tinkle on the seatie....DON'T FREAK OUT! I jumped and tried to intervene with Cash and he got noticeably nervous and was worried about getting it on the seat the next few times. So just hold it together if it gets everywhere and clean it up after without complaint.
* Bring plenty of wipes, travel size baby soap, underwear and diapers (in case you say screw it) and a change of clothes while going in public just in case you need to bathe your babe in the sink at Walmart (or Barnes and Noble in my case).
* Get use to sitting in piss for the next few days (or years) and be grateful your "ass wiping" days are almost over.
